Summit for Community Leaders
in Baja, Mexico, 5 days/4 nights

Join your fellow leaders in southern Baja! This scholarship-funded trip is to connect womxn leaders and show the outdoor and travel industries that representation matters and all womxn deserve leadership opportunities. All participants and contributors are leaders in marginalized communities coming together to practice some much needed selfcare and experience travel without the feeling of otherness. This is first and foremost a vacation. We will also host guided conversations, writers, photographers, and storytellers. We'll kayak the seas, workout beachside, hike the cliffs, surf, swim with sea lions, eat local fruits, and toast under the stars – some of the most magnificent adventures Baja has to offer!


Included:

  • free trip, including flights, food, beverage, tours, and transfers, valued at over $2500 per person

  • education pre and post-trip (detailed below)

  • opportunity for features with our attending writers (all of which will be womxn of color, LGBTQIA, and/or differently-abled)

  • access to all photos and videos captured by our professional photographers and videographers (all of which will be womxn of color, LGBTQIA, and/or differently-abled)

  • tags and representation from one another's networks, including Root Adventures and contributing sponsors

  • Gear provided by our sponsors

  • option to nominate someone for future trips

  • option to lead future Root Adventures (paid position)

Education for attendees:

  • Pre-trip webinar on taking stock images from diversity photos, plus opportunity to be a paid contributor to the site

  • How to teach mindfulness and meditation, offered during the trip by Carisa Banuelos

  • Writers workshop with our attending writers

  • Workshop on Developing connections with media outlets

  • On-trip photo seminars by attending professional photographers

  • TBD seminars created by your fellow travelers

  • Entrepreneurship, Sponsorship ACQUISITION, and Event Planning workshop with Root Adventures

Required Contribution from each attendee

  • dedicated posts for all sponsors (exact number TBD)

  • posts pre/during/post-trip

  • wear gear provided by sponsors pre/during/post-trip

  • blog post or summary about the experience to be shared by Root Adventures and all other sponsors

  • numbers of followers, email address, any additional outlets, so we can share potential reach with potential sponsors

Root Adventures/Breanne's Goals:

  • Affect change in the Adventure Travel industry

  • Include ARTICLE in the ATTA newsletter about the need for change

  • Use this opportunity to create a blueprint for companies to implement more diverse practices without relying on their employees of color to take on the additional work

  • Use my experience to teach other white allies/accomplices the importance of asking, listening, and believing everyone's story

  • Create a pathway to paid employment as a tour leader on future Root Adventures trips

  • Hold 3+ panels at 2020 events (ideally Outdoor Retailer, ATTA, and Denver Start-Up Week) regarding the importance of making mistakes and challenging your company to make mistakes in order to Affect real change and create a more equitable environment (exact topic title TBD). Panel participants will be determined by a group consensus.
