Mundanely Magical Monday: Protecting Your Peace During Travel

'tis the the season of protecting your peace

The holidays often mean travel — planes, trains, long car rides, or visiting friends and family. While these trips bring connection and joy, they also come with a cost: overstimulation, stress, and energy that can feel scattered before you even arrive. This is where your boundaries matter most. Just a few mindful practices can help you arrive rested, centered, and still yourself — even in the midst of chaos.

TRAVEL TIPS:

  1. Anchor where you are:

When you feel your energy tipping or stress creeping in — in the airport, in a car, or at a busy gathering:

Feet on the Ground:

  • Stand or sit and feel your feet connecting with the floor.

  • Imagine the energy from the earth supporting you.

X Marks the Spot:

  • Trace an imaginary line from your pinky toe to your inner heel, and from your big toe to your outer heel.

  • Notice where the lines cross — this is your physical center.

  • Take 3 grounding breaths, connecting this physical center with your emotional center.

Intention Check

Before stepping into the next space — gate, car, family gathering — silently ask:

  • What energy do I want to carry with me?

  • What energy am I choosing to leave behind?

This quick practice only takes a minute or two, but it allows you to travel light, in your body and in your spirit.

2. Reflection Prompt:

At the end of your trip or gathering, check in with yourself:

  • Where did I hold my center successfully?

  • Where did I feel drained, and what triggered that?

  • How can I protect my peace next time while still showing up fully?

Remember: Travel is a microcosm of the season: moving between people, places, and expectations. You don’t need to absorb everything — you can hold your space, return to yourself, and remember your center, wherever you go.
